Air Travel

If traveling by air, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is the closest (and in most cases the best) option for flights. Flights may be cheaper into the San Francisco Bay or Sacramento areas, but expect a minimum of a 2 to 4 hour drive depending on the airport and traffic.

Wedding Venue Shuttle Service

A shuttle service from downtown Reno to and back from the wedding and reception venue will be provided. More details to come.

Hotel Accomodations

Reno has a plethora of hotel and hotel/casino options. Here are a few options we recommend:

  • The Renaissance Hotel
  • Element Reno Experience District
  • Atlantis Resort and Casino
  • Grand Sierra Resort and Casino
  • Legacy Vacation Resort

Hotels are filling up fast that weekend, so please book as soon as practical. Reno has events most weekends through the summer, and our wedding weekend happens to coincide with a motorcycle rally downtown that attracts many out-of-towners.

All hotels listed above are within a 10 minute drive from our house in downtown Reno, with some being walkable.

Vacation Rental Accommodations

The Reno-Tahoe area features a number of great vacation rentals through AirBnB and VRBO. We recommend trying to secure lodging in Midtown Reno, in the Galena Creek area, or near Incline Village. Pre and post wedding events will be in Reno. The wedding venue is between Galena Creek and Incline Village.

Sightseeing

We recommend carving out a little extra time for sightseeing during your visit to Reno-Tahoe. Here are some of our favorite activities:

  • A visit to breathtaking Lake Tahoe. Sand Harbor State Park and Emerald Bay are spectacular. You might try renting kayaks or paddle boards.
  • A walk or bike ride along the Lake Tahoe East Short Path.
  • Numerous hikes around Reno and Tahoe (Check out AllTrails for recommendations. )
  • A visit to Donner Lake and Donner Summit. Be sure to take a drive up Donner Pass road and make a pit stop to relax at one of the dozens of public docks on the north side of Donner Lake.
  • A peaceful walk along the Truckee River/Riverwalk area (near downtown Reno). Be sure to check out the whitewater park!
  • A stroll through Reno's Midtown to see funky shops and great restaurants and bars
  • The Nevada Museum of Art - a gorgeous building with a fabulous rotation of exhibits
  • The Discovery Museum (great for kids)
  • Gold rush era history at Virginia City
  • Visit to Pyramid Lake, the terminus of the Truckee River, located on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation

Restaurants and Food

We LOVE the food scene in Reno. Please check out one or more of our favorites:

  • Definitely stop by Great Basis Community Food Co-op for fresh and local food, amazingly friendly staff, good coffee, and yummy treats.
  • Great Full Gardens, a local institution with healthy food that accommodates all palates and any dietary restriction. Do not miss!
  • Estella's, outstanding tacos and fun outdoor atmosphere
  • Hub Coffee, a local favorite for coffee and pastries, located right on the Truckee River
  • Homegrown Gastropub, amazing local food and unique atmosphere
  • Thali, northern Indian cuisine with a set menu every night. The food is superb. The menu may be all vegetarian/vegan, but the meat eaters always leave satisfied.
  • Smith & River, delightful food and amazing setting on the Truckee River.
  • Wild River Grill, a solid option for lunch/dinner and unbeatable outdoor location near the Truckee River.
